Research Interest

  • Digital Engineering Transformation: My current research is with the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) to provide NAVAIR and U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center a technically feasible radical transformation of systems engineering using Model Based Engineering, digital threads, cloud computing, ontologies, semantic web technology and other digital content to transform the way systems are managed and developed.
  • System Complexity & Entropy:  My dissertation developed a quantitative index framework of structural complexity that could be used to compare a set of architectures.  I am interested in continuing to develop quantitative measures that provide systems engineer’s repeatable methods to make design decisions.
  • Reference Architecture: In past research I worked with Lockheed Martin to define reference architectures and create a method of how reference architectures could be developed and utilized within a large organization to reduce time and cost of system development.
  • Requirements Development:  My master’s thesis dealt with how to handle missing and incomplete requirements while minimizing the risk to a project.
  • System Measures:  I am interested in research into developing new or modified system measures and metrics to lead to better management and prediction in system development and behavior.
